Resident and Family Forums

On 23 November 2016 Deputy Secretaries Jim Longley (Ageing, Disability and Home Care) and Chris Leach (Disability Operations) emailed FACS disability staff about the Resident and Family forums being held across NSW starting in February 2017.

Consultation has been undertaken with people with disability, their families, carers, workers and providers about the transfer of services. FACS is in the process of identifying suitable disability service providers. Read more about the transfer of services.

Service providers are being evaluated against robust criteria including a set of principles that people with disability, their families and carers told us were most important.

Residents of FACS group homes and their family members, carers or guardians have been invited to register for Resident and Family Forums starting in February 2017. The forums will give them the opportunity to meet a selection of providers who FACS have deemed suitable as potential new service providers for their group home. View the resident and family schedule.

If clients or their families ask you questions about the family forums you can refer them to the resident and family forum schedule and also the Easy English fact sheet.

Alternatively clients or their families can call 1800 379 284 for further information.

Expected timeframes for the transfer of Specialist Disability Services

The transfer of disability services will be carefully staged. It is likely to start with clinical services, which includes therapy, case management and behaviour support, in early 2017.

Accommodation services, including those delivered in group homes, respite and in-home support services, will not transfer until after the majority of people receiving these services have transitioned to the NDIS.

Complex services (such as those delivered in large specialist supported living facilities, the Integrated Services, Community Justice or specialist Behavioural Interventions programs) will transfer later.

All services will have transferred by 30 June 2018.
